Nope, there's no typo in the title, although some of us thought that too. The engineers over at Nissan are apparently working on a convertible flavor of Nissan Murano - how weird does that sound? - that might hit the market as soon as next year. What's the catch? Well, there's actually no catch as Nissan is apparently aiming to test the market with the uncanny product which, according to edmunds.com, will be only offered as a limited edition.
Obviously, there are no details at this time as Nissan is apparently fighting to keep all data away from our eyes. However, taking into account that the convertible is scheduled to go on sale next year, it's very likely to see it at a car show this year, probably in September in Frankfurt.
Nevertheless, according to the aforementioned source, the 2011 Nissan Muran Convertible is going to rely on a 2-door bodystyle and will feature a traditional soft top. Why? Because we're living during recession times and costs must be reduced as much as possible. Furthermore, a soft top reduces the overall weight of the car, obviously improving performance figures.
And because we're talking about performance, the car is likely to be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 powerplant that will generate somewhere around 265 horsepower. Judging by the rumors, the engine will be mated to a CVT, with both front- and all-wheel drive systems to join the range.
Now, don't ask us what are they thinking when planning to launch such a product but, looking at this report pretty much explains us the $2.32 billion loss the company has just reported for the fiscal year 2008.
