Bentley has brought its facelifted Continental GT at the Detroit Auto Show, inviting attendees to enter a world that mixes luxury with performance. To be honest, it's a place you'll never want to leave. The Grand Tourer’s heart is a revised 6 liter 12-cylinder twin-turbocharged unit that deliver 575 hp and a peak torque of 516 lb-ft (700 Nm).
The engine not only offers the vehicle a sky-high level of performance, but also comes with FlexFuel technology, which means it can run on both unleaded gasoline and bioethanol (up to E85), or any combination between the two.
Later this year, the automotive producer will also allow customers to choose a new V8 engine, which is currently being developed together with Audi, with the unit offering a 40 percent emissions reduction compared to the W12 monster.
“In late 2011 an all-new, high-output 8-cylinder engine will also be available to order. This advanced power unit will deliver a 40 percent reduction in emissions compared with the W12 engine and will offer a class-leading CO2 emissions-to-power ratio with Bentley levels of performance and refinement,” a company release reads.
Bentley uses state-of-the-art production techniques for the Continental GT, such as aluminium Super Forming - for the front wings and boot lid.
“The new Continental GT is an automotive work of art, with superb craftsmanship and elegant, contemporary design. It drives like a supercar, but without the usual sacrifices in ride or practicality. It is a car that you can enjoy every moment of every day,” said Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen, Chairman and Chief Executive.
