Italian brand Moto Guzzi has updated its popular Norge GT 8V grand tourer for 2011, with the bike receiving revised electrics, timing and cooling systems, ignition and ECU for a claimed better throttle response and more midrange. In addition to that, the crankshaft is now also more compact.

The four-valve arrangement is claimed to produce a 20% higher power curve compared to the two-valve version. However, the air-cooled, 1151cc, 90-degree V-twin, transversely-mounted engine remained the same as in the current model. The maximum power is 102 hp at 7000rpm, and torque is 104 Nm (77 lb.ft.) at 5500rpm.

The fairing has also been redesigned, including side panels that are more integrated into the fuel tank. The windscreen is now electronically adjustable. The suspension has also been revised, the rear encompassing Moto Guzzi’s Compact Reactive Drive Shaft. These changes are aimed at dispersing more heat from the engine while improving thermal insulation. Riders are also said to be given more protection from buffeting.

The revisions don’t stop here, as the new Norge GT 8V also comprises a wider and more supportive seat, the handlebar position has been lowered and slightly retracted, while the instrument panel has been moved. Heated handgrips are now standard.

The seat height is 800mm (31.89 inches), fuel capacity is 23 liters (6 gallons), and the dry weight is rated at 251 kg (566.6 lbs).

Accessories include a top case and rear carrier. The 2011 Norge GT 8V comes to challenge the Yamaha FJR1300, Honda ST1300, Triumph Sprint GT and Kawasaki 1400GTR. The grand tourer is available in three color schemes, namely white, silver or black.
