2011 Mercedes-Benz S-Klasse Gets New Engines

German car brand Mercedes-Benz announced today the addition of four new diesel and petrol engines to the S-Klasse model for 2011. In addition to direct injection in the diesel engines, as well as in the new V6 and V8 BlueDIRECT petrol engines, the new units include the revised 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed automatic transmission and the ECO start/stop function.

Complementing the package are other specific BlueEFFICIENCY measures such as the load-controlled oil pump and tires with lower rolling resistance.

Priced from EUR71,876, the S 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model develops an output of 204 horsepower and achieves a fuel consumption of 5.7 l/100km (41 mpg), while emitting 149 g/km of CO2.

The new V6 diesel in the S 350 BlueTEC (priced from EUR 76,279) delivers 258 horsepower and has a combined consumption of 6.8 l/100km (35 mpg), while emitting 177 g/km of CO2.

With 306 horsepower in the S 350 BlueEFFICIENCY, priced from EUR78,718 and 435 horsepower in the S 500 BlueEFFICIENCY, priced from EUR99,186, the new BlueDIRECT engine generation now comes in V6 and V8 petrol variants.

"The new highly efficient petrol and diesel engines in the S-Klasse demonstrate that our customers are also able to drive a luxury class car with a clear conscience," stated Thomas Weber, member of the Daimler AG Executive Board responsible for corporate research and development at Mercedes-Benz Cars. "More than ever before, the luxury saloon combines the leadership claim of Mercedes-Benz with respect to efficient drive systems with the classic brand strengths in the realms of design, safety, comfort and effortlessly superior performance".

The S 600, with its 517 horsepower 12-cylinder biturbo engine remains the top-of-the-line model, and is priced from EUR156,961.
