2011 Kia Optima/Magentis to Debut in New York

Together with a very, very short press statement, South Korean manufacturer Kia released over the weekend on the company's blog the first renderings of the future generation Kia Optima/Magentis.

The renderings of the new model come after during the past two years, Kia released two new facelifted versions of the Optima/Magentis, with the last hiting the South Korean market last August.

Although, as said, details on the upcoming model year are not known (Kia says it will release them in sequence over the coming months), the generation featured in these renderings differs somewhat extensively from the current version.

As you can see, the car features a more aggressive, sleek design, with larger door panels and smaller side windows. The rear light cluster is
bigger than in the current version, while the overall shape of the back end suggests a more solid look.

The new model is longer, lower and wider than the previous generation and also comes with a significantly longer wheelbase, helping it to provide more space for people and cargo.

There's no word on the engines to power the new Optima/Magentis yet. Currently, the car uses a four-cylinder lineup comprising a 2.0-liter 163 hp, a 2.4-liter 179 hp and a 2.7-liter V6 unit remaining practically unchanged.

The next generation Kia Optima/Magentis will make its public world premiere at the New York International Auto Show, which opens on April 2, 2010. The car will go on sale from fall 2010 in the US, while sales in Europe will begin in spring 2011.
