2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Uses BorgWarner Components

The powertrain featured in the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is using engine timing system and transmission components from BorgWarneer, the company announced today. Featuring Chrysler’s all-new 290 horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, the 2011 Grand Cherokee delivers up to 23 mpg and comes with an improved torque by 11 percent, horsepower by 38 percent and fuel economy by 11 percent.

BorgWarner Morse TEC's timing system with silent chains reportedly delivers superior performance, industry-leading noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics, precision timing and durability.

Joint development between Chrysler Group and Morse TEC engineers optimized the Pentastar system's performance and resulted in lower chain tensions as well as improved durability, NVH and engine efficiency.

Moreover, the new Cherokee’s five-speed automatic transmission features high-energy friction plates and sprag one-way clutches supplied by BorgWarner Drivetrain Systems.

"Nearly 20 years ago, Jeep pioneered the premium SUV segment," said Timothy M. Manganello, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, BorgWarner. "We are pleased that Chrysler Group has chosen BorgWarner technologies for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the company's most advanced V6 engine."

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee brings a wide array (some 45 different systems) of safety and security features. They include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM), four-wheel Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with rough-road detection, four-wheel Brake Traction Control System (BTCS) and Trailer Sway Control and Remote Start.

The Grand Cherokee is also available with a new air suspension that allows the vehicle to be raised or lowered for different on-road and off-road conditions.

The 2011 Grand Cherokee is available in three trims: Laredo, Limited and Overland. The Limited 4x4 starts at $39,995, while the top-of the line Overland starts at $42,995.
