2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee in Australia in Late 2010

Chrysler has already confirmed the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee for the United States, but with all the problems that affected the US-based manufacturer nobody knew for sure whether the model will be launched in overseas markets as well. Furthermore, Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne emphasized that Chrysler will undergo a rationalization of the product portfolio, which once again made some people think that the Jeep brand could be withdrawn from some countries.

But Australia will still receive the 2011 Grand Cherokee, Chrysler Australia's Jerry Stamoulis confirmed for themotorreport.com.au.

"At this stage, we're expecting either late 2010 or early 2011. We're aiming for as soon as possible, but the latest will be early next year," he said in a statement. "It's a beautiful car. With all of the great equipment that's been announced, including the Quadra Lift air suspension, and it will also be the first vehicle we'll receive with the new 3.6 litre V6."

According to some leaked details, in the US the 2011 Grand Cherokee will come equipped with a 3.6l Pentastar V6 engine paired to a 5 speed automatic transmission. As an option, a 5.7l HEMI will also be offered. Pricing will start at $31,480 (including destination charges) for the base Laredo and reach as much as $45,770 for the Overland.

The car is expected to hit US dealerships as soon as this June and will be offered with eight option packages, as follows: Electronic Infotainment System, Luxury II, Off Road I & II, Popular Equipment Group, Technology Group, Trailer Tow, and Trailer Tow IV.
