The 2011 Infiniti QX has made its world premiere at the New York International Auto Show earlier today.

The vehicle, now in its second generation, will be available in two versions, a 2WD one and a 4WD one, both powered by a 5.6 liter V8 engine that uses variable valve timing and direct gasoline injection to produce 400 hp (a 25 percent increase over the previous generation’s unit). This is mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission and returns a combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 16.6 mpg.

Both versions of the SUV can accommodate up to eight passengers, offers a “generous luggage space” and can tow up to 8,500 pounds. Prices start at $56,700 for the QX56 2 WD and $59,800 for the QX 4WD. This means that the vehicle has maintained the pricing level of the previous model.

The full-size SUV comes in standard with a hard drive satnav, around view monitor, Bose 2-channel, 13-speaker audio system that features an auxiliary entrance, 8-inch WVGA color touch-screen display, Infiniti Controller for use with the vehicle‘s systems and features, Bluetooth hands free system and XM satellite radio. Owners also get 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, power sliding sunroof, power rear liftgate, leather-appointed seating, power folding and reclining 3rd row seats.

The optional extras list includes features like perforated semi-aniline leather seating and a DVD entertainment system with dual 7-inch color monitors.

The vehicle also offers standard high-tech systems, including lane departure warning and lane departure prevention. Customers can choose optional technologies like the blind spot warning system, intelligent cruise control, distance control assist, intelligent brake assist with forward collision warning and front pre-crash seat belts and a hydraulic body motion control system.

The 2011 Infiniti QX 56 will reach U.S. showroom floors early this summer.
