2011 Hyundai Sonata Presented in Guangzhou

Having already impressed most of the world with the way it looks and with the performance figures it promises to bring, the new Hyundai Sonata is taking the center stage on the booth the South Korean manufacturer is displaying at the 8th China International Automobile Exhibition in Guangzhou.

The model will enter the local market next month, being manufactured in Beijing by Beijing Hyundai Motor Company, a 50-50 joint venture between Hyundai Motor and Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co.

The hopes are high for the model in China, with the top brass of the company hoping that the Sonata will be a major contributor to the increased sales numbers Hyundai hopes to achieve next year.

“The game-changing, all-new Sonata will shift the landscape of the Chinese mid-size sedan market as it did in the US,” said Jae-man Noh, Beijing Hyundai Motor Company president. “Since its debut in the U.S. in February, the Sonata has posted explosive sales, becoming one of the best-selling sedans in a fiercely competitive segment in the U.S. We expect similar success when Sonata hits the Chinese market.”

In China, the model will be offered with a choice of two engines, a 2.0l and 2.4l Theta-II, both paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The model is equipped with a wide range of more or less useful features and functions, including three-piece panoramic sunroof, smart key and welcome function.

Safety wise, the new Sonata is packed, having already been granted a five-star rating following the crash tests run by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
