The Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship promises to offer a higher level of entertainment this season, as it will come with an extended grid - a further five drivers have registered this week for the one-make series.
Mark Godwin’s MGR Motorsport announced that is has signed with Sheffield teenager Russell Danzey and 8-year-old Nottingham racer Matt Mason, with the team’s third driver expected to be confirmed in the following weeks.
The series winning team Scorpio Motorsport, which is making a comeback to the championship after a one-year hiatus, announced its first driver will be rising star Hector Hurst from Hampshire. The team hasn’t announced who will join Hurst, but Winter Cup racer Howard Fuller is among the potential drivers, after recently testing with the team at Silverstone.
Milton Keynes racer Andrew Jarman has signed for a second season with Simon Baldry’s SWB Motorsport, following the recent signing of Jack Dex and Raoul Owens. The team will announce its fourth driver soon.
The last new driver to join the series is 26-year-old Tom Walker from Chesterfield, who has signed with Staffordshire-based squad JWA Racing, which is using a single-car campaign.
“We had a very positive meeting with the teams this week and everyone is fired up for the new-look championship and the season ahead,” commented Championship Promoter Simon North. “We offer excellent value for money with a cost-effective high profile championship and I am confident we’ll see 20 or more cars on the grid this season.”
The 2011 season of the competition is scheduled to kick off on 23rd/24th April at Donington Park.
