2011 Ford Mustang Powered by 3.7-liter DOHC V6

Ford is preparing to upgrade - or downgrade, depending on your point of view on the matter - the 2011 Mustang with a new engine: it will replace the 4.0-liter SOHC V6 unit we all heard about with a 3.7-liter DOHC 24-valve that would be more focused on efficiency without obviously neglecting performance. themustangnews.com write that the American manufacturer has already demonstrated the car at an event at the Dearborn Development Center last week, in front of several celebrities, including John Force members from the NHRA.

It might seem like the 3.7-liter engine Ford wants to put on the Mustang is basically the same with the Duratec DOHC 24-valve aluminum V6 unit available on Lincolns. In this case, the powerplant generates a maximum power of 273 hp at 6250 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque at 4250 rpm.

Nevertheless, performance figures are likely to be somewhat different on the Mustang, as the engine will undergo several modifications to be fitted on the model. The aforementioned source says both the horsepower and torque ratings will be slightly different, with changes including a new intake manifold, exhaust manifolds and accessory drive systems.

Some people are still wondering why not an EcoBoost configuration for the Mustang because, at first glance, it could be capable of providing the same boost of power needed by such a car model while keeping fuel consumption and emissions to the lowest possible levels. It might seem like Ford is actually considering such an option, with some voices hinting that it could be announced anytime in the future.
