2011 Ducati Multistrada Travel Experience Announced

Italian manufacturer Ducati recently announced it will continue with the Multistrada Travel Experience throughout 2011. The journeys involving the Multistrada 1200 bike, from Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar and into Africa, throughout Italy, Australia or the coasts of California, will be back for next year.

These four exclusive adventures are organized by Edelweiss, a motorcycle tour operator with over thirty years of experience. The company says that all detailed informations about new destinations for 2011 will be available soon.

“A new way to travel has arrived: the Multistrada Travel Experience,” Ducati says. “The world as you've never seen it, on the bike as you've never imagined it. Whatever your destination or your dream, it is no longer out of reach when you're riding four bikes in one, each just the push of a button away.”

Thanks to its combination of 3 different engine maps, the Multistrada 1200 is a sports bike, grand tourer, urban bike and road enduro. “One motorcycle, four riding modes, one planet, four epic journeys: endless transformations,” Ducati brags. It is also uniquely easy to use and features various Ducati MotoGP technologies to achieve enhanced performance, safety and comfort.

The power unit, Testastretta 11° engine, develops 150 horsepower and 119 Nm of torque, while the gearbox and final drive ratios have also been optimized to enable the use of a higher-ratio 6th gear.

The electronic ride-by-wire system administers three different engine mappings to change the character of the engine, while Ducati Traction Control (DTC) uses eight levels of system interaction to enhance control.

Moreover, with a dry weight of just 189kg (417lb) the Multistrada 1200 is said to be lighter than any other road enduro, touring or sport touring bike currently available.
