2011 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T Unveiled

As part of Chrysler’s torrent of products scheduled this year, Dodge has released a new R/T trim level for the Grand Caravan. The model will make its debut at the Chicago Auto Show some time this week and, while there aren’t any big power increases, the revised exterior and interior design should be enough to keep customers happy.

Affectionately known within the company as the “man van,” it uses Chrysler's award-winning Pentastar V6, developing 283 hp and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque, while the only available transmission is a 6-speed automatic.

Styling-wise, the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan RT comes with a body colored front grille and side moldings and new 17-inch alloys. The interior has been spruced up with black leather seats with red stitching, a leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a 9 speaker subwoofer and 506 watt amplifier at the interior.

The R/T van aims to offer a sportier feel, as 12 mm lower ride height, new lower rolling resistance tires, new spoiler, reduced brake caliper and rear bearing drag all contribute to make it one of the best handling vans on the market.

The 2011 R/T model is now available in eight striking paint colors, namely Blackberry Pearl Coat, Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat, Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl Coat, Deep Water Blue Pearl Coat, Stone White Clear Coat, Mango Tango Pearl Coat and Dark Charcoal Pearl Coat.

Aimed mainly at customers who have “driven a performance sedan, but need the flexibility and functionality of a minivan and are looking for a vehicle with superior handling and agility,” it should arrive in US dealerships in the Spring of 2011. Starting price excluding shipping is $30,595.
