About a week ago, American manufacturer Chrysler announced the introduction of the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392, an inaugural special edition version of the  Challenger. Yesterday, the pricing information was released, with the carmaker planning to sell the 1,492 units to be produced for $42,555.

Today, Chrysler released a comprehensive gallery of photos showing the model. A model which, in the carmaker's view, was built after listening to “our devoted, loyal Dodge customers.” A model which offers more power, more thrill and, above all, a 392 cubic inch HEMI V8.

The unit develops a whooping 470 horsepower, all of them street legal, and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. The torque number is greater than the ones which came with the previous 6.1l V8 by some 90 lb.-ft. at 2,900 rpm.

Translated into performance, the above figures mean a naught to sixty acceleration in the high 4 second range, with the American favorite quarter mile possible in just under 13 seconds. The tops speed of the vehicle, depending on the transmission used, is either 180 mph (290 km/h, manual transmission) or 173 mph (278 km/h, automatic transmission).

“We consciously tuned the 392 for a lot more torque, as that is what truly creates the thrust that sets you back in the seat and keeps you there!” said Ralph Gilles, Dodge CEO.

“We can’t wait to see our customers’ reactions when they get behind the wheel and put their foot on the throttle – it is so responsive and a blast to drive.”

Being a special edition, the SRT8 392 comes with several unique features, like 392 HEMI badges on the fenders, standard 20-inch SRT exclusive wheels or serialized Inaugural Edition 392 HEMI dash plaque.
