2011 Detroit Auto Show Will Host 30-40 Launches

One of the largest auto shows in North America, the 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), will open for the public on January 15. The show is expected to feature 30 to 40 worldwide vehicle premiers, according to the show organizers. The Detroit show will include among others the introduction of the Audi A6, BMW 1 Series M Coupe and 6 Series Convertible, Chevrolet Sonic, Chrysler 300, Hyundai Veloster, Toyota Prius MPV, Ford Escape Concept and Honda Civic Concept. Luxury carmaker Porsche AG is set to return to the 2011 North America International Auto Show in Detroit after a three-year absence, and will be unveiling a new supercar concept. GEM, Wiki Speed, Saba Motors, Venturi and ZF Industries are also participating in the show. The event will begin on January 10 with two press preview days, 12-13 are reserved for industries, on the 14th there will be a charity preview, raising money for local children's charities, and the show will be open for public attendance January 15 through 23. Automakers debuted 37 production and concept vehicles at the 2010 show, including 27 worldwide premiers. Nissan, Infiniti, Mitsubishi, Rolls Royce, Fisker and Suzuki will give the show a miss again this year. Guangdong-based manufacturer of automobiles and rechargeable batteries BYD Corp. is the only Chinese automaker to participate in the venue. For the 2010 show, organizers issued 4,536 media credentials and public attendance totaled 714,137. Barron Meade, chairman of the show, expects media and public attendance to increase even further this year. “We are seeing evidence the industry is on an upswing,” said Meade. “There is even more steel going up this year.autoevolution will be attending the 2011 NAIAS, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
