2011 Consumer Reports Reliability Survey: Japanese Carmakers Rule, Ford Drops

Consumer Reports has released its annual Car Reliability Study, and the biggest new in 2011 was that ford has dripped a staggering 10 places from 10th overall to 20th this year. This is because the Blue Oval is sure to have problems with specific new models, the Explorer, Fiesta and Focus.
There are bound to be some kinks that need to be worked out, but we’re sure the Focus is an overall good product that’s been designed for the global market, where it has to deal with stiff competition from the VW Golf. As for the Fiesta, that’s been available on the European market for a number of years, and we haven’t heard any horror stories.

The other big change this year is that Chrysler Group is building a reputation for making reliable cars. The Jeep brand jumped to the 13th position overall to become the sturdiest domestic carmaker, while Chrysler itself jumped 13 positions.

However, the battle between US automakers seems sill when you take into account the fact that Japanese automakers have the top 9 spots on the list, followed by Volvo, Hyundai and Kia.
