Euro NCAP released a batch of comparably similar crash test results for models available on the European market, and it’s now time to see how Chevrolet’s Orlando did. It looks like the car got the maximum five-star rating, scoring 80 out of 100 points. The model tested was a 2011 Orlando 1.8-liter petrol, LHD.

The 5-door MPV vehicle also scored 95 percent in adult occupant protection and 79 percent in child occupant protection.

The tests showed the passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact. The Orlando scored maximum points for the protection it provided in the side barrier test. The front seat and head restraint provided good protection against whiplash injuries in a rear-end collision.

It also scored maximum points for protection of the 18 month old child. The passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be used in that seating position.

The Orlando has six standard airbags and provides ISOFIX elements for child seats. The crash sensor technology used in the MPV ensures that the doors will automatically unlock on detection of an impact. Anti-lock braking, traction control, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist and electronic stability control are standard on all cars.

The Orlando's safety architecture is based on that of the Cruze, which was the first Chevrolet to achieve a five-star rating from Euro NCAP.

"The Orlando provides formidable levels of safety,"
said Wayne Brannon, President and Managing Director, Chevrolet Europe. "Safety matters a lot to us and we are delighted that these two vehicles have earned the top European rating."
