2012 Chevrolet Aveo Images Leaked

Following the first batch of images showing the 2012 Chevrolet Aveo sedan, released by American manufacturer GM in the beginning of the year, what appear to be images showing the hatchback version of the model hit the web today.

Apparently part of the patent filing Chevrolet made with the US patent office, the images show a model which takes inspiration from the Aveo RS show car. The new Aveo comes with a refreshed front fascia, a more aggressive stance thanks to new headlights and a larger grille.

The similarities between the two extend to the interior as well, with rumors pointing to the production version boasting the same multi-function steering wheel, instrument cluster housing, position of the HVAC vents and controls

There is so far no word about the engine to be packed under the hood of the new Aveo. For comparison, the RS version is equipped with a 1.4l I-4 Ecotec turbocharged
engine that develops 138 horsepower. The unit is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

The current model is offered with a choice of two engines, a 1.2l DOHC and a 1.4l.

According to a decision made in late 2009, the new Aveo will be manufactured in Orion Township, Michigan. The plant is to undergo a retooling process this year, with the overall capacity expected to reach 160,000 units a year. The Aveo is also manufactured South Korea in either 3- or 5-door configuration.

A sure crowd pleaser in Europe, the new Aveo is expected to turn some heads in the US as well.

"It's been a long time since we've had small cars in the United States built in the United States that has had, I think, the attributes and the quality and the performance that these cars are going to have,”
Mark Reuss, said late last year.
