2011 Cadillac XTS Luxury Sedan in the Works

Cadillac, one of the four core brands the new General Motors is focusing on, is reportedly working on a new luxury sedan codenamed XTS that might be launched sometime around 2011. The future Cadillac will be intended to take on models from Audi, BMW,  Lexus and Mercedes: A8, 7 Series, LS and S-Klasse respectively, according to a report by nationalpost.com.

The news was revealed in a meeting with suppliers, with the company's officials claiming the XTS is projected to be manufactured at the Oshawa, Ontario production facility. And because we're talking about production, it is expected to begin in December 2011, according to the aforementioned source.

Additionally, the new GM is also working on several new models, including the new Chevrolet Impala and Buick Regal likely to enter assembly lines in 2013. The Regal will be based on the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia platform, with some voices hinting that either the Impala or Regal will bring a hybrid powertrain.

The Impala on the other hand will start production in February 2013, quite late since the current model will be seven-year old at that time. However, according to nationalpost.com, General Motors intended to build it sooner but didn't have the money for it.

"It gives GM the flexibility to juggle the production mix to meet the market," a source familiar with the matter told the aforementioned source when talking about the models to be based on the Epsilon platform.

"That is something that GM has not had the full-scale opportunity to do. In the past, they've built assembly lines dedicated to one vehicle, they run the piss out of it, and they throw money at to make the public buy it whether you want to or not. That's passe. That's the bad old days we hope will never come again."
