Although some people would definitely refuse to drive a stick shift in today's crowded cities, Buick is going to offer the 2011 Regal with a 6-speed manual transmission. At least as far as the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine is concerned...
Curiously, the company earlier this month rolled out a full press release detailing the 2011 Regal but didn't say a word about a potential manual gearbox for the car. Still, Jim Federico, one of the main figures responsible for the development of Opel Insignia and Buick Regal, confirmed that the mid-size sedan will be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission soon after its public launch.
The car will be marketed with a choice of two engines, a standard 2.4-liter Ecotec direct injected engine producing 182 horsepower (136 kW) plus an optional 2.0-liter Ecotec turbocharged and direct injected engine releasing 220 horsepower. A six-speed automatic transmission will be also available across the range.
“The 2011 Buick Regal is like nothing you’ve ever experienced from this brand,” said Susan Docherty, general manager of Buick GMC earlier this month. “The Regal is the next chapter in Buick’s transformation and will expand the portfolio to include a sport sedan.”
“Regal is all about great proportions,” said John Cafaro, design director, passenger cars. “For example, with the fenders flared to wrap around the tires. It’s an aggressive stance that people aren’t used to seeing in recent Buicks.”
As for safety, the Regal will be equipped with StabiliTrak stability control system and full-function traction control, standard dual-stage front airbags, side-curtain airbags and pedal-release system and rear-seat thorax airbags.
