2011 BMW 5 Series Touring to Premiere at AMI

German carmaker BMW announced today the presentation date for the remaining model in the new 5 Series range, the Touring, scheduled for April 9, during the 2010 Auto Mobil International (AMI) show in Leipzig. Of course, the PR department from BMW chose not to release any official photo of the new 5 Series Touring, nor details about it; they did however promised to do so soon, but probably not before the 2010 Geneva Auto Show is over.

Until then, we are only left with the rumors which surround the Touring ever since the launch of the 2011 5 Series. From the engines standpoint, it is unlikely some new units will be developed. The sedan version of the 5er is powered by a range of one eight-cylinder and three six-cylinder petrol engines, as well as by two six-cylinder diesel powerplants, which will find their way into the Touring as well.

The Touring will benefit from BMW's EfficientDynamics technologies, which include BMW’s automatic transmission, EPS Electric Power Steering, Brake Energy Regeneration, gearshift point indicator, active air flaps control, and on-demand operation of ancillary units including a detachable a/c compressor.

Of course, we couldn't help from wondering why doesn't BMW bring the Touring to Geneva and choses instead to presented at a smaller event. The answer comes from the same department we mentioned above.

"By tradition, the German market is the world’s most significant sales region for the Touring version of the BMW 5 Series. As a further factor the world premiere of the new BMW 5 Series Touring highlights both the significance of the 2010 AMI as the No 1 car show in Germany this year and the close connection of the Company to the location in Leipzig."
