A new rumor hit the web today, but not much of a big surprise. According to a BMW insider, the new 5 Series will be somewhat of a center piece for BMW's EfficientDynamics development plans.
According to bimmerpost.com, the new 5er will boast all the technology required on an EfficientDynamics vehicle, starting with brake energy regeneration and ending with aerodynamique wheels.
The biggest news comes however in the form of the possible use of the ActiveHybrid technology recently deployed on the X6 and already offered on the 7 Series. Additionally, the new 5 Series will drop the use of the V8 engine in favor of a 3.0l unit.
As with the X6 AcitveHybrid, the 5er will use a 2.4 kWh NiMH battery pack featuring its own cooling liquid for keeping the temperature at the optimum temperature and ensure the best performance at any given time. The batteries are recharged via brake energy regeneration, a system we have seen on many other hybrids on the market.
The new 5-Series will also benefit from some technical support developed for the new 7 series, including Integral Active Steering, Dynamic Drive, Dynamic Damping Control, Night Vision System, Lane Warning, and cruise control with Stop and Go function.
As for appearance, will give the 5 Series a new interpretation of the brands trade-mark kidney grille. The new model will bring along a more conservative look, as well as a cleaner front-end design.
As the Frankfurt Auto Show draws ever closer, we are to expect more information to be leaked by the German manufacturer, so keep an eye out for the latest reports.
