According to the manufacturer the 170 horsepower Scirocco will start at £21,755 for the version equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and at £23,060 for the 6-speed DGS version.
The Scirocco is, as we said, powered by a 2.0 common rail TDI unit, which develops 170 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Performance wise, the car reaches 100 km/hour in a little over 8 seconds and can develop a top speed which surpasses 220 km/hour (136.7 mph).
The bad news is that these levels of performance, despite being better than in the series 2.0l TDI powered version, is still way lower than the upcoming 270 horsepower Scirocco R20. The good news is that the GT TDI is as environmentally friendly as they come: 139g/km and 147g/km for the DSG version. Fuel consumption levels are remarkable: 5.3l/100 km.
As is the case with all the Scirocco line-up, the GT 2.0l TDI is fitted with Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC), which operates through pneumatic valves in the damper units. The system allows the driver to select from normal, comfort or sport modes to define the desired suspension and steering response settings for the conditions.
As for comfort and infotainment, the Scirocco GT TDI comes with a six-CD autochanger, rain and dusk sensor, multifunction computer and 2Zone air conditioning, ABS, ESP and six airbags, all as standard.
We can safely say now that Volkswagen has two GTD models in its garages. It is only a matter of personal taste whether to go for the Golf 6 GTD or the Scirocco Gt TDI. Pricing is about the same. The GTD costs £21,850 for the manual transmission version.
