2010 Toyota Urban Cruiser Detailed, Fresh Photos

Toyota has finally confirmed that the 2010 Urban Cruiser will officially go on sale in the UK and Europe this May, with the initial European objective for first full-year sales totaling 25,000 units. Furthermore, AWD versions account for 30 percent of the total, according to an official statement issued by the Japanese automaker.

Toyota has also released a few new details regarding the car, including engine options and equipment levels. The model will be offered with a choice of two engines, 1.3-liter VVT-i petrol unit developing 100 bhp (75 kW) and 132 Nm of torque plus a 1.4-liter D-4D AWD version that puts out 89 bhp (66 kW) and 205 Nm of torque between 1,800 and 2,800 rpm.

Just as expected, Toyota praises the fuel efficiency and the CO2 emissions of the aforementioned engine, claiming the 1.4-liter D-4D unit releases the lowest CO2 emissions compared to any AWD passenger car. Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, this particular engine configuration has an average fuel consumption rating of 57.7 mpg (4l/100 km) with emission ratings reaching 129 g/km.

In order to get the best possible fuel efficiency figure, Toyota also equipped the 1.3 Dual VVT-i engine with a Stop & Start system that idles the car whenever it's not in motion.

"Developed by Toyota, the system is the first in the world to feature a permanently engaged starter motor mechanism. This brings two major benefits: quiet operation and rapid restarting," the company said in the press statement.

In terms of safety, the car boasts a wide array of features, including seven airbags, active front headrests, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control as standard. Other safety highlights include three-point ELR (emergency locking retractor) seatbelts with a pre-tensionar and force limiter function, plus an advanced impact-absorbing body that protects the occupants in case of crashes.
