2010 Suzuki Kizashi Recalled in the US

The Japanese carmaker Suzuki yesterday announced a new recall concerning the 2010 Kizashi sedan, after discovering a glitch affecting the front doors of the car. The notification posted on the official website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) doesn't mention how many cars are actually affected by the recall, but reveals that the problem exists only on those built from October 13, 2009 through May 31, 2010.

"The hinged door of the center lower box located in the front dashboard area fails to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard no. 201, "Occupant protection in interior impact," is the official reason of the recall, as posted on the NHTSA page.

In the worst case scenario, "the door may open in a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the vehicle's occupants."

Nobody really wants that to happen, so Suzuki will contact all owners and dealers that delivered affected models and will schedule a safety recall programme to fix the glitch. Basically, the mechanics will replace the instrument panel center lower box of the affected vehicles with a new part, as always, free of charge. The first cars are expected to arrive in service centers on July 9, 2010.

Suzuki Kizashi went on sale in the US in December and comes equipped with several safety features, including four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and electronic brake-force distribution; Electronic Stability Program (FWD) or Intelligent Vehicle Stability Program (AWD), fold-down rear headrests and available rear sonar and backup camera.

Power is supplied by a 2.4-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder engine developed by Suzuki in the company's new manufacturing facility in Sagara, Japan. The engine develops a maximum output of 185 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 170 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm when equipped with a manual transmission. If the powertrain is mated to a CVT, the maximum output drops to 180 horsepower at 6,000 rpm.
