2010 Subaru Outback EPA Figures

After in mid May Japanese manufacturer Subaru announced EPA figures for its 2010 model year Legacy model, it is time for the other addition to the Subaru range, the Outback, to get the same numbers.

According to Subaru of America, the new Outback all-wheel drive version achieves up to 24 mpg (9.8l/100 km) combined and 29 mpg highway (8.1l/100 km), despite the fact that it is some 7 percent bigger than the previous version.

The Outback 2.5i CVT thus provides better fuel economy (EPA combined) than competitors such as Toyota Venza, Volvo XC70, VW Passat, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ford Explorer. Sure, it is not the most eco-friendly you get, but given its performances, it is a good choice.

The above mentioned version for instance is powered by a 2.5l SOHC unit, with maximum output of 170 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 170 lb.-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. The entry level price for the Outback is $22,995 (excluding destination and delivery).

"The all-new 2010 Subaru Outback combines great on- and off-road capability, comfortable space, incredible cargo carrying ability and fuel economy all for a great price," Tim Mahoney, Subaru of America senior vice president said. "We think this new Outback will really raise the bar in the crossover segment."

For the sake of comparison, the other Subaru bound for the US, the Legacy provides 26 mpg combined (9l/100 km) and 31 mpg highway (7.6l/100 km). Prices for the Legacy in the US start at $19,995, $800 lower compared to the previous generation Legacy.
