2010 Subaru Legacy EPA Figures

Subaru of America announced today the EPA figures for its 2010 Legacy which, despite the larger size compared with the previous version, stands at 26 mpg combined (9l/100 km) and 31 mpg highway (7.6l/100 km). This makes the Subaru eat more fuel than competitors Honda Accord, Mazda6i, VW Passat and Hyundai Sonata.

"We are thrilled that the all-new 2010 Legacy not only offers more space and a more rewarding drive than the competition, but it also delivers better fuel economy at a very competitive price," Tim Mahoney, Subaru of America vice president said.

Below are listed the EPA figures for all versions of the new Subaru Legacy:

  • Legacy 2.5i 6MT         19 mpg city / 22 mpg combined / 27 mpg hwy
  • Legacy 2.5i CVT         23 mpg city / 26 mpg combined / 31 mpg hwy
  • Legacy 2.5GT 6MT     18 mpg city / 21 mpg combined / 25 mpg hwy
  • Legacy 3.6R 5AT        18 mpg city / 21 mpg combined / 25 mpg hwy

The 2010 Legacy features several improved engines. The 2.5l SOHC, based on the older 2.0l version, got improved head cooling resin-based intake manifold and optimized piston shape. For the turbo version of this engine, Subaru has placed the turbocharger unit directly under the forward part of the engine to increase response.

Prices for the Legacy in the US start at $19,995, $800 lower compared to the previous generation Legacy. The two high-end versions of the Legacy, the 3.6R Premium and 3.6R Limited, start at $25,995 and $27,995 respectively. Of course, several packages will be provided for the range, so expect those prices to be bigger. For the complete list of options and packages, follow this link.
