After last week Swedish manufacturer Saab experienced some leakage from somewhere within the company, it decided to give the opportunity to some magazines to properly present the new vehicle to roll off its assembly lines.
The new 9-5, which will be presented at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, will be powered by three turbocharged petrol units. The smaller of the three, the 1.6l four-cylinder powerplant develops 160 hp. It is followed by the 2.0l four-cylinder engine with an output of 201 horsepower and the 2.8l V6 monster, releasing 300 horsepower.
Visually, the new 9-5 features new design cues, with new headlights, new grille reshaped front bumper and LED taillights. The rear of the car, characteristic of the Swedish manufacturer, offers a refreshened view, with elements being borrowed from the 9-4x BioPower concept. Compared to the previous version, the 9-5 is heavier, taller and longer, as it has a wheelbase increased by 14 cm.
On the inside, the Saab 9-5 comes equipped with a console-mounted ignition, black trim, bolstered seats and new steering wheel, Harman Kardon audio system, keyless entry and Panasonic 8-inch navigation system, as well as an entertainment system for rear passengers. Several trim levels will be available, although not many details are available at this point.
After its presentation in Frankfurt, the new 9-5 will have to wait a few months before being released. Expectations are it will become available in Europe in April 2010, at prices starting from 35,000 euro.
So, this time, we have the opportunity to see the new 9-5 in a new photo gallery, courtesy of Auto Motor & Sport and Carscoop.
