2010 ROC to Feature Audi R8 LMS, Porsche 911 GT3 and Scirocco R-Cup

The Volkswagen Group recently announced that it's the new vehicle partner for this year’s edition of the Race of Champions, with three of its brands (Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen) set to provide mean machines for the competition.

The event, which will take place in a domed soccer arena in Dusseldorf, Germany, on November 27 and 28, will see Formula One heroes like Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, motorcycle ace Mick Doohan, Le Mans champion and record holder Tom Kristensen and other motorsport heroes compete on a special course. The VW Group will bring the Audi R8 LMS, the Porsche 911 GT3 and the Scirocco R-Cup to the battle.

VW hopes that the racing aces will enjoy its vehicles: the Audi R8 comes with 525 hp, a centrally-mounted engine and rear-wheel-drive, the Porsche 911 GT3 brings a 450 hp rear engine and rear-wheel-drive, while the Scirocco R-Cup uses a 275 hp unit running on bio-natural gas and sends the power to the front wheels.

The full driver line-up for the second German edition of the event after 1989 includes Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Alain Prost (Formula 1), Sébastien Loeb (world rally champion), Mick Doohan (World Motorcycle Champion), Tom Kristensen (24 hours of Le Mans), Andy Priaulx (world touring car champion), Carl Edwards (NASCAR) as well as Travis Pastrana (motocross).

Saturday evening will see the “Nations Cup” take place, while Sunday will offer us the name of the winner. However, last year’s winner Mattias Ekstrom, won’t be there to defend his title. This is because the Audi factory driver will take part in the DTM season finale, which will be held in Shanghai at the same time.
