2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Details and Photos

After in early April we got the first glimpse at the Porsche 911 GT3 RS through a set of spyshots, it is now time to take a more official look at what promises to be the sportiest street-legal version of the 911 range.

Set to make its debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show, the 911 GT3 RS will retain the visual enhancements usually seen on the GT3 version presented at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show, including the GT3 RS sticker, the special colored wheels, the decorative stripe, the rear wing endplates and the contrast painted outside mirrors.

What will change, or should we say get even better, is the engine and its performances. The new GT3 RS is powered by a revised version of the 3.8l, six-cylinder engine, with a rated output of 450 hp. Enough to propel it from naught to sixty in 4 seconds and allow it to top at 312 km/h (194
mph).

Being built primarily to suit racetrack enthusiasts' desires, the 911 GT3 RS boasts features that will enable it to cope well with racing conditions. It sports a reduced total weight, thanks to the employment of light-weight materials like polycarbonate and carbon fiber.

The technology used for the RS includes Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Active Drivetrain Mounts (PADM). Additionally, the conventional lead battery has been replaced with a lithium-ion one, helping to reduce the weight by some 10 kg.

As said, the 911 GT3 RS will be presented at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. From there, it will go on sale in most European countries by the end of the year. No pricing has yet been released.
