2010 Peugeot 5008 Official Details and Photos

Given the fact that the financial crisis has made less and less people afford a car of their own, French manufacturer Peugeot must have taken that into account when designing the new 5008, a vehicle they call "the people carrier" and that will be available in either five- or seven-seat versions.

The spaciousness feel is visible from the outside. The car's windscreen has a total of 1.7 square meters and it is continued by the 1.69 square meters panoramic roof. The glazed surfaces on the 5008 total a whooping 5.77 square meters, side window included, of course.

The second strong point of the 5008 is the modularity. The second row comprises three seats of equal width, which can be adjusted lengthwise and feature reclining seat backs. The seats can be folded either individually into the passenger compartment floor, or into a shelf configuration, allowing the effective load length of the 5008 to stand at 2.76 m.

Seating lots of people require something to entertain them. Peugeot fitted the 5008 with two 7-inch color screens in the front seat head restraints, a connection panel for different types of mobile audio/video equipment (video console, games consoles, DVD player) and two Bluetooth wireless headsets.

As for the driver, apart from the more and more common head-up display, he/she will benefit from the entire range of safety features now in use, so that the safety of all those passengers is not jeopardized: ESP, six air bags, automatic electric parking brake with "hill assist" function, fasten seat belt warnings on all seats and tire under-inflation detection.

In the months following its launch (which will take place at the Frankfurt Auto Show), the 5008 will be available in only two petrol engines and four diesel units. Full details of those engines are listed below:

  • 1.6l VTi 120 bhp BVM5 Euro 5 –7.3 l/100 km and 169 g/km CO2 in the combined cycle
