Ford has taken the wraps off the Focus ST concept at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.

The concept previews the production Focus ST, which will be released in 2012. This will be a global product - the first in Ford’s performance history, with the development seeing Team RS (Europe, project leader) working together with SVT (U.S.), under the Global Performance Vehicles name.

The vehicle is powered by a four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine that comes with a new air intake and an ECU remap, which allow it to offer 250 hp and a maximum torque of 360 Nm (250 lb-ft). Ford says that even though the model delivers over 10 percent more power than the current European Focus ST, its CO2 emissions and fuel consumption are reduced by over 20 percent. The engine comes in standard with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The list of tech goodies also includes a 10mm lowered suspension, a different variable ratio for the steering, as well as a torque vectoring torque control system. The vehicle’s body comes with redesigned front and rear fascias, a roof spoiler, a dual central exhaust and rides on 19-inch alloy rims. The car is finished in a new color: Tangerine Scream.

For European drivers, the Focus ST will bring the same distinctive qualities of pure dynamics and performance that have created the unique appeal of our ST heritage,” said Jost Capito, Director of Global Performance Vehicles

"For enthusiasts in North America and Asia who have asked why our compact performance models were not available to them - the wait is almost over! The new Focus ST will offer exactly the same exciting driving experience wherever it's on sale," the executive added.
