2010 Paris Auto Show: Citroen C5

Sporting both styling and technology upgrades, the new C5 is being displayed in Citroen’s stand these days at the Paris Auto Show, with showroom availability scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2010. Customers can choose from both saloon and tourer body styles.

Styling wise, modifications have been made to the headlamps, with the addition of LEDs active day and night and combined with a light guide. The headlamps retain all the existing functions, including xenon dual-function directional lights and corner lights. The rear lights get a new “Dark Crystal” treatment with clear glass in the central section.

Performance tweaks include two major changes to the powertrain, with the new C5 now featuring e-HDi micro-hybrid technology, combining second-generation Stop & Start and the electronic gearbox system with the HDi 110 DPFS diesel engine. Steering-wheel paddles and low rolling resistance tires are also included.

This technology combines driving comfort with a fuel consumption of 51 mpg (4.6 l/100 km) and a considerable reduction in CO2 emissions (120 g/km).

The new C5 also sees the addition of a new-generation 2.2 litre HDi engine developing 204 bhp and 450 Nm of torque, and mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This version boasts a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h) or 140 mph (225 km/h) for the Tourer, 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 8.3 seconds (8.6) and combined-cycle consumption of 40 mpg (5.9 l/100 km) or 38.5 mpg (6.1 l/100km) for the Tourer.

The saloon emits 155 g/km of CO and the Tourer 159 g/km. This version stands out visually with its chrome-finished double tailpipe.

Citroen’s eTouch is also available on the C5, offering two buttons: “SOS” for emergency calls (the call is also triggered automatically in the event of impact) and “Double Chevron” for assistance calls.
