Suzuki has introduced the all-new Swift last month, but the vehicle has had its European premiere at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.

Even though the vehicle doesn’t come with radical exterior changes, its platform is entirely new. The fresh Swift is larger that the previous model, as it is 3.85 m long, 1,69 m wide and 1,51 m in height and has a wheelbase of 2,43 m.

Suzuki has made extensive use of high-strength steel for the new body of the car, allowing it to be stiffer and offering superior safety for its occupants.

The vehicle will start out in life with a choice of two engines. The first is a new 1.2-liter petrol unit that delivers 94 hp and a maximum torque of 118 Nm. This can be mated to a manual gearbox (it allows the car to hit 62 mph in 12.3 seconds) and to an automatic transmission (the o to 62 mph time is 13.5 seconds for this version). The powerplant allows the Swift to reach a top speed of 103 mph (165 km/h). Mated to the manual gearbox, the unit returns a fuel economy of 47 US mpg (5.0 liters per 100 km).

The second engine is a refreshed 1.3-liter diesel that offers 75 hp and a peak torque of 190 Nm. This engine takes the compact car to 62 mph in 12.7 seconds an on to a top speed of 103 mph (165 km/h), while returning a fuel economy of 67.3 US mpg (4.2 liters per 100 km). The unit only emits 109 grams of CO2 per km, thus being one of the greenest in its class.
