As it was announced back in April, Japanese manufacturer Nissan today released the Skyline Crossover on the Japanese market, with the promise that the new vehicle will "foray into the crossover segment with a unique and distinctive design, that arrives from a fusion of a coupe with an SUV."
The new Skyline is powered by Nissan's 3.7l VQ37VHR V6 engine, capable of developing a minimum of 332 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 270 lb.-ft of torque at 5,200 rpm. Thanks to the use of a Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) system, the unit provides, according to Nissan, "high power, high torque, improved fuel efficiency and 75 percent fewer emissions than the levels mandated by Japan's 2005 exhaust emission regulations."
Nissan offer two interiors for the Skyline Crossover, Brown and Black. The interior offers automatic folding rear seat, retractable coat hanger located on the back of the driver's seat, Bose audio system and HDD CARWINGS navigation system with built-in terrestrial digital TV receiver.
An exciting feature is Skyline's ability to recognize the driver approaching the car, via the Intelligent Key. When "the master" approaches, lamps in the door mirrors illuminate the ground below and interior lighting activates.
The Crossover is equipped with Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Emergency Brake Operated Pre-crash front seat belts and high-strength Zone Body construction. Also offered are SRS air bag systems for the driver and front passenger, SRS side air bag systems for the driver and front passenger, SRS curtain air bag systems and front-seat Active Head Restraints.
With a sales target set at 200 units per month, Nissan will offer the new Skyline for in between 4,200,000 yen to 4,998,000 yen ($45,300 – $54,000), including consumption tax.
