2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportsback in Showrooms in Summer

Mitsubishi Motor North America announced the 2010 Lancer Sportsback will become available for the US market in summer. The award wining Lancer's newest addition has a dynamic new shape, while keeping its distinctive look.

The defining feature of the new model is the sloping rear door with integrated “roof wing”. The door extends down to the rear bumper, making it easier for bulked up loads such us bicycles to fit into the car.

The five door model features a 2.4l 168 horsepower engine for the GTS version and a 2.0l 237 horsepower for the Ralliart one. The gadgets you can find on the new Lancer , especially for the Ralliart version, include Rockford-Fosgate Sound System, in-dash CD changer and Sirius Satellite Radio. The hard disc drive navigation system is optional.

Lancer Sportsback formed the basis for Mitsubishi's 2009 Dakar Rally efforts, competition won by Mitsubishi 12 times until now. The Sportsback was launched late last year at the Paris Motor Show and at the time Mitsubishi said that the hatchback Lancer was for European and Asian markets only. Meantime, it appears company officials had a change of hart.

"American consumers are increasingly asking for fun, attractive, yet practical cars that complement their active and individual lifestyles," said Dan Kuhnert, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Mitsubishi Motors North America.

"The Lancer Sporstback answers those calls with a heady mix of performance, aggressive styling and the bonus of greatly increased utility, and will be available in two versions - the economical GTS and high-performance Ralliart. The five-door platform has considerable upside potential in the domestic market."
