Despite the fact that the previously-known as the Mercedes SLC model won't be on display at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show, Mercedes has just unveiled a bunch of new details, as well as some new photos regarding the SLS AMG. That's right, the over-discussed Mercedes SLC/Gullwing will be officially called SLS AMG, Mercedes AMG CEO Volker Mornhinweg confirmed at a press conference.
As you can see in the photo gallery available after the jump, the 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is still a disguised prototype but this is the first official confirmation that this particular model may actually head to mass-production, despite the difficult economic times the auto sector currently lives in.
Details are basically the ones we already heard about, including an AMG naturally-aspirated 6.3-liter V8 engine unit with new magnesium intakes and eight separate velocity stacks plus two electronically-controlled throttle plates, as emercedesbenz.com informed today. The engine develops a maximum power of 571 hp combined with 479 lb-ft of torque at 4750 rpm.
Mated to a rear-mounted seven-speed transaxle and dual clutch transmission, the engine helps the car sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, while zero to 200 km/h is achieved in approximately 2 seconds. Maximum speed is rated at 315 km/h (195 mph).
Since it provides such a high power, the car boasts aluminum compound disc brakes measuring 15.4 inches in the front and 14.2 inches in rear, while carbon-ceramic rotors will be available as an option.
There's no official information regarding the price of the future model but rumors claim the 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG may be included in the $250,000 price range.
