Using a AMG 6.2l engine that develops 518 horsepower (11 HP more than the previous version) and 465 lb.-ft. of torque, the E63 accelerates from standstill to 60 mph (100 km/hour) in just 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/hour). Unfortunately, the top speed of the car is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/hour).
The engine is matted to a AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission that replaces the conventional torque converter through the use of a multi-disc wet start-up clutch. In conjunction with the four individual driving modes, rev-matched shifts and RACE START function, the new transmission provides better response and contributes to the fuel economy (12 percent lower than the previous version).
Safety wise, the E63 AMG uses a newly developed powersteering (22 percent more direct than in the standard production models) and individual 3-stage ESP. The latter allows drivers to choose between "ESP ON", "ESP SPORT" and "ESP OFF", with the active mode shown in the central display of the instrument cluster.
For the interior, standard equipment includes leather upholstery in three different colors, the AMG instrument cluster with an AMG main menu, door entry sills with AMG lettering and a sports pedal cluster, both in brushed stainless steel.
Sales of the 2010 E63 AMG will begin in the United States in November 2009.
