2010 IIHS Top Safety Pick Winners

The Institute for Highway Safety completed crash tests for the 2010 Top Safety Pick of the Year and handed the award to no less than 19 cars and 8 SUVs. For the first time in the history of IIHS, a mandatory requirement was that cars had to pass the roof strength test, designed to measure protection in a rollover. Additionally, all cars had to have electronic stability control. Taken apart, Subaru is the only carmaker who managed to get an award in all four classes in which it entered. It was followed by Ford and Volvo, with the biggest number of cars which received the award (6), Volkswagen/Audi (5) and Chrysler (4). For the first time ever, no Toyota vehicle received the Top Safety Pick rating. "With the addition of our new roof strength evaluation, our crash test results now cover all 4 of the most common kinds of crashes," Adrian Lund, IIHS president said in a release.
