2010 Honda VFR1200F US Pricing Revealed

Honda’s latest machine finally got a price tag set for the US market, which might make the British customers get a bit upset. The Japanese manufacturer announced the new sports-tourer will sell for just $15,999 (£9,782) in the US, which is almost £2000 less than in Britain.

Aside from featuring a V4 engine, the new sports tourer also benefits from a fully automatic dual clutch transmission, marking the debut of such a technology, and available in three color schemes, namely Candy Prominence Red, Seal Silver Metallic and Pearl Sunbeam White.

Through this fully automatic motorcycle dual-clutch transmission, Honda promises a precise acceleration control thanks to an electronic technology that ensures smooth gear changes.

There are three operating modes, namely two full-auto modes (D-mode for regular operation and S-mode for sporty riding) and a 6-speed manual mode.

The difference between the existing technologies and Honda’s new one are the dual input shafts, the innovative in-line clutch design and the concentration of hydraulic circuitry beneath the engine cover.

The new transmission features a dual clutch transmission configuration in which independent clutches are employed for the odd gears (1st, 3rd, 5th) and even gears (2nd, 4th, 6th), respectively.

The two clutches operate alternately to effect gear changes. For example, when changing from the first to second gear, the computer detects the up-shift and engages the second gear, then releases the first-gear clutch while engaging the second-gear clutch to achieve a seamless gear change.
