2010 GMC Terrain Awarded IIHS Top Safety Pick

The 2010 GMC Terrain was awarded the Top Safety Pick title by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), just like the Chevrolet Equinox, with which it shares the platform. In the first rollover tests of midsize SUVs performed by the IIHS, the 2010 GMC Terrain received the highest-possible rollover protection rating of “Good”.

"When developing the Terrain, we focused on delivering to customers the safest crossover in the market,” said Jeff Boyer, General Motors executive director of Safety. “The Terrain comes with a variety of safety technologies that are designed to protect occupants in the event of a crash, including six standard air bags, electronic stability control and the safety and security of OnStar.

The IIHS’r roof strength test pushes a metal plate against one corner of a vehicle's roof at a constant speed, before five inches of roof crush is reached. The Terrain achieved the “Good” rating thanks to the fact that its roof withstood a force equal to four times the vehicle’s weight.

The Top Safety Pick award recognizes vehicles that go far beyond basic safety standards,” said IIHS president Adrian Lund. “The Terrain earns the honor with top ratings in all four of our challenging safety tests, and (offers) standard electronic stability control that can help drivers avoid serious crashes altogether.

In addition to earning the IIHS Top Safety Pick, the GMC Terrain has the highest possible five-star crash ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
