2010 Geneva Auto Show: 5 by Peugeot

The French manufacturer Peugeot brought at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show the so-called 5 by Peugeot concept, a hybrid model that is said to integrate the company's new design philosophy. The car is powered by a 2.0-liter HDi FAP163 bhp diesel engine, mounted at the front of the vehicle, plus an electric motor installed at the rear that provides an extra 37 bhp. Overall, the powertrain generates 200 bhp, with emissions going as down as 99 grams of CO2 per km.

Additionally, the car comes fitted with a pure electric model for low speeds plus a four-wheel drive system whenever it's needed. According to early figures, the concept achieves a fuel consumption figure of 74.3 mpg.

“At the front, the interpretation of the Marque’s traditional feline appearance is spectacular; “LED” lights are highlighted by the use of illuminated surrounds that blend perfectly with the overall exterior body styling. The headlamps frame a unique front grille design, whose visual appearance is closely influenced by the Peugeot SR1 concept car," Peugeot said in a statement last month when it presented the vehicle for the first time.

“The innovative design of the front grille gives the impression that it is detached from the vehicle; it appears to be suspended in front of the car. The new revised Lion badge naturally takes pride of place in a specially shaped area at the front of the long aluminium bonnet.”

At this time, nobody knows for sure whether this concept has chances to make it to production, but voices familiar with the matter are suggesting that the future 508 model might be based on it.
