Just as expected, Ford used the 2009 North American International Auto Show to introduce a couple of new models, including the 2010 Taurus which is said to be particularly focused on fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions. In fact, Ford has no other alternative, as it is forced to comply with the market demand given its financial situation. However, Ford says the Taurus is the only “car that changed America's view of full-size sedan” so the new model has the potential to revamp the company's sales.

The revised Taurus has an impressive lineup of standard and optional features, as it follows: Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Warning, Intelligent Access with Push Button Start, MyKey parental programmability, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross Traffic Alert, Rain-Sensing Wipers, EasyFuel capless refueling, Ford SYNC and Voice-Activated Navigation with SIRIUS Travel Link.

In terms of engines, the car is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 Duratec engine capable of generating 263 horsepower and a torque of 249 foot-pounds. With the help of a six-speed automatic transmission, the upgraded Taurus manages to score a very low fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions, the American automaker said in press statement.

“Taurus is our premium Ford flagship, and it casts a halo across the entire brand portfolio,” said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president for global product development. “Building on its reputation for safety leadership, we leveraged extensive use of computer-aided design and engineering technologies as well as digital pre-assembly modeling to deliver a high-quality, new Taurus a year ahead of schedule.”

The new Taurus is expected to arrive in Ford's authorized dealerships in late 2009, with pricing expected to start at $25,995. Here are the most important technologies installed as standard or available as an option for the new Taurus:
