2010 Ford Mustang Track Pack, Available This Summer

Following the recent launch of the 2010 Mustang, American manufacturer Ford thought to bring a little extra to the pony and announced it will provide the optional installed Track Pack for the Mustang GT coupes equipped with manual transmission. But that's not all. Ford has up its sleeve yet another add on, in the shape of the Ford Racing FR3 Handling Pack.

"At Ford, we always apply what we learn at the track to the street. The Track Pack and Ford Racing FR3 Handling Pack continue that heritage and give our performance customers great ways to have an even sportier experience in the 2010 Mustang GT coupe," Fritz Wilke, Mustang performance manager.

Now don't expect any engine modifications per se. But with a little twist here and there, fitting your Mustang with the Track Pack may allow you to better control the power of the GT. The Track Pack is comprised of the following modifications and additions:

  • 19-inch Pirelli P Zero P255/40ZR-19
  • modified underpinnings
  • front and rear stabilizer bars
  • roll gradient reduced by 13 percent
  • damping increased by 23 percent in front and 8 percent in the rear
  • Performance Friction brake pads

They may not seem as much, but Ford says they all come down to more grip, more-responsive acceleration and better brake linings. "The Track Pack covers all the bases. It offers great performance on the track or if you're cruising down the road," Tom Barnes, vehicle engineering manager added.

As for the FR3 Handling Pack, it offers upgrades derived from "experience with the Ford Mustang FR500C competing in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge and FIA GT4". In other words, the pack lowers the car by more than an inch, increases the spring rate by 75 pounds, eliminates roll through stiffened sway bars and increases compression and rebound thanks to re-tuned dampers.

The two packs will become available this summer, only the FR3 Handling Package can be installed in a garage or at a Ford dealer. The Track Pack comes, as we said, as a factory installed option. The Track Pack retails for $1,495 while the FR3 Handling Pack retails for $1,335.
