2010 Canadian GP to Be Scheduled in June

After months and months of negotiations between the Montreal officials and Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone, followed by as many speculations in the international media, some definitive details have finally been unveiled by Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay regarding Canada's return to the F1 series.

As we've reported to you yesterday, the Canadian official managed to convince the 78-year old manager of Formula One to drop his financial requests by as much as $100M. Although he didn't particularly confirm it, Tremblay admitted the two parties have finally reached a compromise in signing a multi-year deal, with only a few details to be agreed upon in the next few weeks.

However, the official statement regarding the return of the Canadian Grand Prix will be made in September this year, only days before the official launch of the 2010 Formula One calendar.

There are still certain commitments which have been made that have to be refined. Right now, we're trying to finalise this agreement in the best interests of Montreal,” said Tremblay, according to the Associated Press. In addition, he told the media that the latest version of the deal “is looking good”, with the prospect of Circuit Gilles Villeneuve hosting the 2010 Canadian GP in June.

Furthermore, Tremblay's optimism is also echoed by former organizer of the Canadian F1 race Francois Dumontier, who is currently supervizing Circuit Gilles Villeneuve's Nationwide event in the NASCAR series.

I would say that I'm pretty optimistic about it. I think there are a lot of things to do yet, but it's okay to be optimistic about it, yes,” Dumontier was quoted as saying to the Montreal Gazzette the other day.
