2010 BMW Winter Driving Course Dates Announced in Canada

The Canadian division of BMW announced the dates for next year’s Winter Driving Training course, scheduled to be held in February 2010. According to a company statement, the courses are full-day sessions held at the International Club Academy Racing (ICAR) at the Mirabel Airport, just north of Montreal, Quebec from February 1-7, 2010.

Participants of the aforementioned course will be taught the basic elements for safe winter driving, key manoeuvres such as emergency braking and avoiding, front and rear wheel skid control, 180 degree turns and drifting.

Furthermore, they will learn how to handle a car with and without the Dynamic Stability Control enabled. The end of the day will give participants the chance to demonstrate some of their new skills in a snow autocross.

To be eligible for participation, drivers must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 years of age... and CA$795. Participants will therefore enjoy a full day behind the wheel of BMW’s 335i Coupes with both manual and automatic transmissions.

According to BMW Canada, participants will take part in both in-class theory and in-car driving experience, with more focus on the latter. Class sizes will be limited to 16 participants with three instructors led by Chief BMW Driver Training Instructor, Pierre Savoy.

However, enthusiasts should be aware that the BMW course will not turn them into a race car driver, but it will allow them to have a better recognition of potential dangerous situations and react in order to avoid them, therefore increasing driving pleasure, confidence and safety on the road.
