2010 BMW R 1200 GS/Adventure Revealed

After it offered full details on the 2010 R 1200 RT tourer, the motorcycle unit of the German company BMW did the same with the new R 1200 GS/Adventure model, which, just like its sibling, get a more powerful drivetrain, some styling tweaks, as well as a huge range of optional extras and accessories.

Both the 2010 R 1200 GS and the R 1200 GS Adventure have been fitted with a new drivetrain with two overhead camshafts per cylinder and valves in radial arrangement. The increase in engine output by 5 percent means the unit now develops 81 kW (110 hp) at 7,750 rpm and 120 Nm at 6,000 rpm, as well as an increase in maximum engine speed from 8,000 to 8,500 rpm.

Power is transmitted as before by the six-speed gearbox with larger bearing diameters and a modified distance between the individual shafts already upgraded technically for the 2008 model year.

This offers a significantly better acceleration, torque and pulling power. Just like the R 1200 RT, the new R 1200 GS/Adventure models have an improved exhaust system, which features electronically controlled exhaust flaps and a modified interior structure of the rear silencer, for superior and powerful sound.

One particularly important new feature in the wide range of optional extras and special equipment for further customisation of these models is the additional headlights in LED technology.

According to the manufacturer, color variants of the R 1200 GS are Alpine White non-metallic, Magma Red non-metallic, Ostra Grey matt metallic and Sapphire Black metallic, while the R 1200 GS Adventure will only be available in Smoke Grey matt metallic and Brilliant Yellow metallic.
