2010 BMW 6 Series GT in the Works

As we hinted in mid March, BMW was supposed to be working on a GT model to add up to their future 6 Series range. It would appear that the 6 Series GT (developed under the F14 platform) has passed the "rumor" stage and is becoming more and more of a fact, as bmwblog.com reported.

For those of you who found the 5 Series GT to be a bitter disappointment, the next GT for the 6er line might produce the same feeling. BMW will remain true to the Progressive Activity line of design they initiated with the 5er GT, but without the Sedan part of it.

According to the same source, BMW is looking into making the 6 Series GT a "natural progression" of the current 6 Series and will design the vehicle as being a four door vehicle, boasting a coupe shape but will not be a typical sedan (remember the 5 Series GT?)

The new GT will be the manufacturer's first four door hatchback coupe, which will come only as a four seater. Each of the four seats will be separated by a center console... wait, isn't this the exact description of the 5 Series GT? It might be, given that both of them are inspired by the CS concept.

On the outside, the 6er GT will boast different features than the coupe or convertible 6ers. A wider grille and the headlights raised above the grille and elongated into the front fenders are the main features of the future GT, while the wheel arches will remain reminiscent of the typical 6 Series.

As for the engines, not much is expected to change on the 6 Series GT. The car will use the same powerplants as the current generation line, including the V8 twin-turbo and possibly a hybrid engine.
