A little bit late as it may seem, but Yamaha issued a recall for 8700 Zuma scooters manufactured between July 2008 and April 2009. These 2009 Yamaha YW125, as their codename is, turned out to have a fuel pump problem which should be mended, though no seriously hazardous consequences have been reported.
The YW125 (or Zuma 125, as people knows them) in the affected runs have an improper clearance in the fuel pump and this could lead to defective fuel supply resulting in a stalled engine. While such a scenario is usually only causing frustration and unnecessary servicing or platform fees, being left with no throttle in the middle of a turn isn't exactly anyone's idea of a fun ride.
Yamaha has already started bringing these scooters in for a fuel pump replacement with a redesigned one. Like always, this operation is free of charge, and if you're not sure whether your Zuma must be serviced (because of this issue), you'd better get in touch with Yamaha or your nearest Yamaha Motors dealer.
