2009 Volkswagen Tiguan R Line Comes in June

Volkswagen is planning a new addition to the Tiguan range, not as a different model, but as a bulked up version of the series model. The Volkswagen Individual designed Tiguan R Line is set for release in June, bringing with it significant visual changes when compared to the base version, automobilesreview.com wrote.

The basis for the R Line was the Sport version of the Tiguan, over which a new body kit was applied. The kit features body-colored front splitter, mounted below the front bumper along with a unique matt chrome grille section. Body-color sill extensions come complete with matte chrome highlights, leading into the new rear bumper, which features a small diffuser element. In addition, a small spoiler is featured at the top of the rear window.

The R Line body kit comes with a choice of five different colors (Candy White (pictured), Reflex Silver, Deep Black, Biscay Blue and Mountain Grey) and will be available for two engine versions: the 2.l TDI common rail diesel (140 horsepower and 170 horsepower) and the 200 horsepower 2.0l TSI unit, providing a fuel efficiency rating of 19 mpg (12.3l/100km) in city mode and 26 mpg (9l/100km) in highway conditions.

As we said earlier, the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan R Line will be available starting June. Prices for the R Line will start at 24,635 pounds for the 2.0l 140 horsepower version and can go to up to 26,305 pounds for the 2.0l TSI version.

At the beginning of the month, Volkswagen's small SUV received top safety rating following the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) new roof strength safety test.
